Rev. W. Gene Schwenk, 73, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Owensboro, KY, Gene pastored for over 25 years in various local churches in Iowa and Indiana. He started the Roanoke Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church in Iowa, and ministered at the Aboite Baptist Church in Fort Wayne for 10 years. He has been on the Deacon board at the Lakewood Park Baptist Church in Auburn for many years. After his retirement from the ministry he and his wife owned and operated Kids at Play Daycare for over 20 years. He will be fondly remembered by parents and employees as "Mr. Gene." Surviving are his wife, Betty Schwenk of Fort Wayne, daughters, Sara (Richard) Hathaway of Auburn, Sandy (Dennis) Moughler of Butler, son, Pat (Ruth) Schwenk of Toledo, OH, brother, Richard (Nancy) Schwenk of Terre Haute, sister, Patsy (Ron) Metzger of Elk River, MN and 10 grandchildren . Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold (Ruth) Schwenk, and infant daughter, Sherry Schwenk. Service is 1:00 PM, Saturday, at Lakewood Park Baptist Church, 5555 CR 29 with one hour calling prior and Rev. Clare Jewel officiating. Calling at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road Friday, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
