Richard H. Murphy Obituary


Richard H. Murphy, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Regency Place in Fort Wayne. Born in Homer, MI, Richard was the owner of Murphy's 76 Service Station for over 60 years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps WW II veteran serving as a Rifle Range Coach. He was an Indiana "Justice of the Peace" for over 13 years and performed over 5000 marriage ceromonies. He organized Murphy's Invitational Golf Tournament in 1956 to support Judge Frank Celarek's Scholarship Fund. Surviving are his son, Steven (Judy) Murphy, Donald (Mary) Murphy both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Amy (Tony) Stefanek, Ryan (Melissa) Murphy, Julie (Chris) Beck, Brian (Jenny) Murphy, Brent (Christy) Murphy; 8 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bess; brothers, Donald & Robert and sisters, Doris Carbach, Norma Neff and Frances Burchard. Service is 11:00 a.m. Monday at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. with calling 1 hour prior. Calling also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
