Danny Lee Wirges , 62, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, IN, Danny worked for Dana and the Internation Union for 38 years, retiring in 2007. Danny hired in to Dana in 1968 in department 372. He held his first stewards position in 1974 and didn't stop there. By 1983 he had held all union positions possibe including three terms as 3rd shift Committeeman and one term as President. In 1984 Danny became a member of the International Staff for AIW as a Service Representative. He was elected to Regional Director in 1991 servicing union members from Indiana through Texas. Danny served as Assistant Regional Director while we they were Paperworkers and became the Assistant Director in 1996 when they merged with PACE. He has continued as the Assistant Director for district 7 of the United Steelworkers. All-in-all, Danny felt his experience to be very rewarding and felt a sense of accomplishment for the union. He was a member of the American Legion in Orland IN and was a past vice president of A.F.L.C.I.O. He enjoyed gardening, gambling, and "being the boss". Surviving are his wife, Fran Marie Wirges, son, Jamie Rediger, daughter, Tina (David) Parris, son, Damion (Devon) Wirges, all of Fort Wayne, son, Todd Wirges of Dearborn, MI, grandchildren; Brandy (Tony) Beckstedt, Kayla Parris, Casey Parris, Ethan Parris, Malik Wirges, Montana Parris, Camden Wirges, Zane Wirges , great grandchildren Alivia and Carson, and brother, George (Pat) Wirges Jr. of Fort Wayne. Danny was preceded in death by his parents George Sr. and Dora Jane Wirges, and granddaughter, Danielle Parris. Service is at 10:30 am, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at - D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling 1 hour prior. Calling at - D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, Friday, November 09, 2012 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Burial in the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
