On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Virgina Mae Wampler (99), mother, grandmother and sister passed away peacefully at her home in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born to Ernest and Sylvia (Thatcher) Lantis on March 22, 1919. She was older sister to Jannette Hartman Caley of Brewster MA., Louise Buzzard (deceased) and Dorothy Stocksdale (deceased). She was married to Fredrick (Fritz) Guthier of Huntington, IN. and G.V. (Wamp) Wampler of Bloomington, IN. She was mother to eight children and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was known by everyone she met for her kindness, humor and interest in others. She was in frequent conversation with even total strangers and maintained a sweet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. Virginia is survived by her children, Shirley (Charles) Hiner of Ft. Wayne, IN., Mary Lou (Rodney) Boyer of Mansfield, PA., Frederick (Marlys) Guthier of Arcadia, FL., Linda Hansen of Angola, IN., William (Kristen) Guthier of Arcadia, FL., Sally (Joseph) Siembab of Columbia City, IN., Jane (Joe) Gensic of Cincinnati, OH. and James (Diane) Guthier of Prior Lake, MN. She will be missed by her surviving 20 grandchildren, 30+ great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Fritz Guthier and G.V. (Wamp) Wampler, as well as sisters and grandchildren. She was a life-long Cubs fan, an interest she shared with her sister and some of her children and grandchildren. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a part of Sweet Adelines chorus. She enjoyed traveling and hosting family gatherings. She loved playing cards and won more than she lost. A funeral service in memory of Virginia will be held at 1:00 pm, May 22, 2018 at - D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road with Minister Gerald Moreland officiating. Calling at - D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Monday, May 21, 2018, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
