Shawn D. Ambrose, PhD, age 52, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 16, 2017 at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, IN. Born and raised in Rochester, PA, Shawn graduated from Rochester High School. He married Melinda LaFollette in 1990, and raised seven children with his sweetheart. He earned 9 years restaurant and retail management experience. Shawn earned a BA in Communications and Journalism from Shippensburg University. He earned an MBA from the University of Akron, and earned his PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University. He taught at Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College from 2005 to 2011. He was currently an Associate Professor at the University of St. Francis, teaching in the Keith Busse School of Business & Entrepreneurial Leadership. Shawn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in several positions in the church: Sunday school teacher, branch president, Young Men's president, employment specialist. He was an Iraq War Army Veteran and a member of the Army National Guard from 1983-2009. He reached E7, Senior Food Service Sergeant. Shawn was an assistant Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America and raised two Eagle Scout sons. He strongly believed in the value of education; he and his wife have graduated four of their seven children from homeschool, all with at least one college semester done while at home. He was a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and the American Council on Education. He ran two marathons. When an injury prevented running, he switched to biking long distances. Shawn rode with the Three Rivers Velo Sport biking club. He was happily biking a 100 mile event the day he died. Surviving are his wife, Melinda L. Ambrose of Fort Wayne, IN: children, David LaFollette Ambrose of Ogden, UT; Jonathan LaFollette Ambrose of Logan, UT; Geri Lyn Ambrose, Nanette Ambrose, Rebecca Rae Ambrose, Elizabeth Ambrose, Joshua LaFollette Ambrose, all of Fort Wayne, IN; his mother, Patricia Ambrose of Rochester, PA; brothers, Bruce (Dianne) Ambrose of Chippewa Twp, PA; Brian Ambrose of Alvin, TX; Gregg (Rebecca) Ambrose of Rochester, PA; sister, Linda (Jeffrey) Ambrose Haffner of Beaver, PA; and 16 nieces and nephews. Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Clarence "Sonny" Ambrose. Service is at 10:00 am, Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5401 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling Saturday, September 23, 2017, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm & Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
