Ruby N. Shoemaker, 77, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017. Ruby was born on August 17, 1939, the daughter of the late Cecil Gerald "Johnny" and Edna Johnson. A graduate of the class of 1957 from Portland H.S. Ruby was the co-owner of Shoemaker Inc. where she worked actively with her husband for 30 years. She was always very involved with numerous church organizations, including the Women's Missionary Prayer Fellowship. Ruby was a crafty woman, and enjoyed re-finishing and upholstering furniture, and belonged to the local Antiquester's Club. She also enjoyed sewing, and quilting. More than anything, Ruby had the gift of hospitality, and enjoyed being with her family and friends. Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, John Shoemaker; children, Gena (Tim) Hamby, Lori (Tim) Slates, John (Angela) Shoemaker II, and Jeanine (Stacy) Johnson; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Timmons. Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, May 19, 2017 with calling 1 hour prior at Westview Alliance Church 9804 Illinois Road Ft. Wayne, IN 46804. Visitation will be 6-8PM on Thursday, May 18, 2017 also at the church. Burial to take place in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Westview Alliance Church or MISFITS Homeless Ministry
