Rosellen M. Oberlin, 92 passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. Rosie was born on October 15, 1924 and the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Altimus) LaPradd. She graduated from Central High School; was a member of Good Shepherd Church and American Business Women's Association for several years. As a young girl, Rosie enjoyed playing the accordion and was a member of an accordion band. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothing for herself and her children as a stay at home mom. She also shared her love of the accordion with her children as she gave them all lessons. She worked as a secretary for 20 years and retired in 1985 as an Admissions Assistant at Saint Francis University. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling to several different countries, attending grandkids schools' events and loved when the great-grandkids would visit. Surviving are her sons, James (Eileen) Oberlin and Steven Oberlin both of Fort Wayne; daughters, Karen Reed of New Haven and Janine (Bob) Livingston of The Woodlands, TX; five grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Oberlin and Joel (Gretchen) Reed of Fort Wayne, Jenna (Gus) Canas of Westfield, IN, Jessica (Grant) Gibson of Geneva, IL, Drew Livingston of Princeton, NJ six great-grandchildren, Kaylee Oberlin, Grace, Sophia and Jaxon Reed of Fort Wayne, Maria Canas of Westfield, IN and Leo James Gibson of Geneva, IL; sister-in-law, Lois Hamman of Auburn and Janet Oberlin of Warsaw; several nieces and nephews. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, James O. Oberlin (2014); sister, Mary Kathyrn Tomkins; and son-in-law, David Reed.
Service is 10:30 am Thursday, July 20. 2017 at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home 4017 Maplecrest Rd. Fort Wayne, IN, with calling one hour prior. Calling also, Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Heartland Hospice.
