Richard "Dick" W. Shull, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana Dick was the son of the late Arthur and Martha Shull Sr. Dick served our Fort Wayne Community while on the Allen County Sheriffs Department for five years prior to him becoming a Fort Wayne Police Officer for 28 and a half years before retiring in 1993. During his career he earned the rank of Sergeant, Master Sergeant, and Captain. He was a 50 year member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and was a member of the Journey Free Methodist Church. Dick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather to his family. Dick had a very social personality, accompanied with a great sense of humor made him a very unique man. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling with his wife, drinking coffee while sitting outside, and getting together with his dear friends at the police department. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Nancy Shull of Fort Wayne; son, John (Evelyn) Shull of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Tyler (Heather) Shull, Travis (Selene) Shull, Lexie (Josh) Fretz, Alec Shull, Destin Shull; great-grandchildren, Jacoby, Fretz, Travis Jr., and Aria. Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Shull, and brother, Arthur Shull, Jr. Service is 11:00 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior, Pastor Todd Eckhardt and Chaplain Brice Bennett officiating. Calling at the funeral home Thursday, March 23, 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Entombment with Police Honors at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
