Richard D. (Dick) Kirk, 89, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN, with his family at his side. Born January 19, 1928 in Indianapolis, Dick was the son of John and Margaret (Sullivan) Kirk. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis and the University of Notre Dame School of Engineering. He retired from General Electric in 1988 after a career in marketing and sales management which included travel to many parts of the world. He and his wife, Audrey, continued to travel extensively after their marriage in 2002. Dick was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football. He always took pride in his Irish heritage and took several trips to Ireland to visit family members living there. He was a gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him. He was deeply committed to his family and to the work of Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana and served on many of their boards and committees. He also served as a volunteer at United Way and McMillen Center. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Michael Kirk of Fort Wayne and James (Mary) Kirk of Winona, MN; daughter-in-law Pamela Kirk of Shady Cove, OR; grandsons, Seth Kirk of Shady Cove, OR and William Kirk of Winona, MN; step-granddaughter, Sage Behr of Winona, MN; a sister, Elizabeth Mortensen of Houston, TX; nephews, Kirk (Melissa) Boswell and Richard (Rita) Mortensen; nieces, Patricia (Craig) Tapley, Catherine Boswell and Lesa (Ronald) Brownstein; 3 great nephews and 2 great nieces. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth; two sons, Kevin Kirk and Richard Kirk, Jr.; and sister, Maryellen Boswell. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Calhoun and Lewis Streets, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Monsignor Robert Schulte officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, with a vigil service at 4:30 p.m. Burial at Catholic Cemetery, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be given to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for Masses or to Easter Seals ARC of Northeast Indiana, 4919 Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.
