Ray F. Zell, 97, passed away Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, Ray served as store manager for G.C. Murphy Co. in Galion, OH, Owosso, MI, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne. He was past president of the Rotary Club in Galion and the Chamber of Commerce in Owosso. Ray was a member of Christ's Church at Georgetowne, started the Voyagers senior group, and served as president of that group for over 25 years. Ray had a wonderful bass voice and sang in church and for other occasions. He started every Murphy store meeting with a solo. He served as the choir director in Owosso and especially loved singing in quartets in Galion and Owosso. He loved golf, fishing, and family vacations. Surviving are his son, Gary A. (Beverly) Zell of Holland, MI; daughter, Connie (Dennis) Dixon of Williamston, MI; grandchildren Cathy ( Rick Cook) Zell of Bath MI. Dennis (Season) Dixon of East Lansing MI. Kerry (Trent) Walton of Denver CO, great grandchildren Miranda Cook, Mia and Lila Dixon, Wyatt and Emery Walton and special friend and companion of 12 years, Patricia Biggs. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Allen A. and Jennie Zell, beloved wife, of 52 years, Thelma Zell, and his sister, Goldie Smith. Service is 11:00 am Monday, August 7, 2017 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road with calling from 9:30 -11:00 am. Calling also Sunday August 6, 2017 from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
