Peggy Duvall, 101, passed away on August 23, 2017 at Coventry Meadows Nursing Facility in Fort Wayne, IN. Peggy was born on January 18, 1916 in Globe, Arizona, the daughter of the late Edwin and Jessica Mitchell Head. She graduated from Redford Township High School in Redford, Michigan in 1935. She started her career as the lead trombonist in the all-women's orchestra, the "Coquettes," and was a long time member of the Detroit Federation of Musicians Union. She retired in 1978 from St. Joseph Hospital. She will be lovingly missed by her four children; Robert (Jeanne) Richhart of Severna Park, MD, Thomas Richhart of Huntington, IN; daughters, Peggy (Chuck) Schieferstien of Fort Wayne, IN, and Cynthia Richhart of Lancaster, CA; three step-daughters, Gloria (George) Lee of Le Crescenta, CA, Nelda Cox of Norwich, NY, and Brenda Andrews of TX; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Cecile (Rudolph) Kramer, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert G. Richhart of twenty-two years and second husband, Athel Duvall of twenty-six years; two brothers, Gladney and Samuel Head; two sisters, Bessie (Sam) Pryor and Joyce (Gene) Swan; and daughter-in-law, Janet (Thomas) Richhart. In recent years, her love for music continued by listening to live music played by members of the N.E. Indiana Banjo Society at Coventry Meadows and also watching Lawrence Welk music show on television. Her other favorite past times included spending time with family, reminiscing with her sister Cecile by telephone, and eating good food especially English Pasties. She was loved by everyone that knew her and will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Visiting Nurse and Hospice for the excellent care they provided. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 1pm with calling 1 hour prior at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Memorial contributions may be made to the Allen County Council on Aging, 2927 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805.
