Nancy Jean Highley passed away peacefully after a long struggle with multiple illnesses on Friday March 3rd in Columbia City IN. Nancy was born in Marion IN on January 27, 1952 and graduated from Warsaw HS, but always felt herself to be a Fort Wayne South Side High School Alumnae. Nancy graduated from Butler University Pharmacy School and spent her pharmacy career in various health care settings. She retired from Parkview ATU clinic in 2013 due to health reasons. She loved her time there and was very close with many of her patients. Nancy joined Girl Scouts at a young age and remained committed to the organization and her many Girl Scout friends throughout her life. She loved the out of doors and had a lifelong love of fishing. She liked nothing better than to be on or around the water wherever there was fish. She enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and rooted for the Butler Bulldogs any chance she got and was also an enthusiastic Komet Hockey fan. Though Nancy had many debilitating health issues, she never lost her sense of humor. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family. She is survived by her long time companion, Chris Myers; her father, Everett Highley of Palm Harbor FL; uncle and aunt, Phil (Shirley) Canaday, Marion IN; brothers, Jim (Brenda) of Columbus, Ohio, Jerry (Susie) of McCordsville, Ind., and Jay (Mary) of Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Nancy was a loving aunt to Paul, Clinton, Grant, Luke, Brett, Meg, Jenna (Asher), Eric, and Jason. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Highley. The family would like to thank the staff at Millers at Oak Pointe in Columbia City, who made her last months of life pleasurable. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2pm, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park 1140 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Visitiation will be held 1 hour prior.
Donations in Nancy's honor can be made to Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana/Camp Logan, or the Humane Society of Whitley County.
