Mary Katherine Kortum, nee Morgan, 91, a life-long resident of Fort Wayne, IN, died peacefully at her home on August 13, 2017.
Born February 11, 1926 to the late William and Katherine Morgan, Mary attended James S. Smart elementary school, and graduated from South Side High School in 1944. Mary was the Secretary to the President of Bowser, Inc., a Fort Wayne based manufacturer of gasoline pumps and inflight aircraft refueling systems. Later, Mary ran her own Executive Secretarial Service Company.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Allen Kortum, also a life-long resident of Fort Wayne, IN. They were high school sweethearts and married on July 1, 1950 after Bob's graduation from Purdue University. Mary was also predeceased by her sister, Martha Pekny, of Merced, California, and one brother, William Morgan, of Fort Wayne, IN.
Mary enjoyed volunteer work for organizations including the Unitarian Church, Bowser Women's Club, Fort Wayne State School, YWCA, South Side High School, and the Fort Wayne Civic Theater where she enjoyed performing in their annual "Follies" production. Mary also loved her home and enjoyed entertaining friends and family there.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Mark Kortum of Jacksonville, FL, and David Kortum (Shari) of Louisville, KY. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Mary's caregiver for the past 10 years, Sherryl Kelley, for her years of love and dedication to their mom.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 17 at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 West Main Street, Ft. Wayne, IN 46808, starting at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Indiana State Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3500 DePauw Boulevard, Suite 1040, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
