Mary I Rietdorf, 94, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Lutheran Life Villages Pine Valley, where she had been a resident for a little over a year. She was born in Fort Wayne, IN on August 18, 1924, the daughter of the late William and Ola Altekruse. She married Kenneth Rietdorf on February 23, 1952 and spent 56 years of marriage together until his passing in 2008. Mary obtained her Nursing License on Feb 7, 1946. She attended Lutheran Hospital Nursing College and graduated in the class of 1946. Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at Parkview Hospital and at Orvile J. Miller M.D. doctor's office and retired in 1977. Mary was the last surviving charter member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, of which she had attended for 60 years. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, reading, and puzzling. She is survived by son, Bruce (Kathy) Rietdorf; two daughters, Jean (Buddy Edholm) Powell and Sharon (Steve) Clark; grandchildren, Susan (Luke) Hughes, Christine (Matt) Habegger, Elizabeth (Tim) Studebaker, Heather (Jerry) Smith, Stefanie Clark, Michael (Suzanne Whitton) Rietdorf, Roger Clark, William Barrett, and Sara Clark; and 12 great-grandchildren, Alex, Cameron, Gavin, Corbin, Miken, Luke, Logan, Paige, Lily, Liam, Ean, and Wyatt. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Rietdorf; and 4 siblings. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1505 Bethany Lane, Fort Wayne, IN 46825. Visitation 1 hour prior. Pastor Debra Mueter officiating. Visitation will take place Monday, October 29, 2018 from 3 to 8 p.m. at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825. Burial will take place in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or Heart to Heart Hospice.
