Mary (McMinn) Hoffman-Farrant, 64, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Born Feb. 6, 1953 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Allan Clair "Mac" McMinn and Gloria Parker. She was a 1971 graduate of Elmhurst High School and attended Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. She was a designer and creator of fashion jewelry and she and her first husband operated the Shop of John Simmons, which became Cheers. She later held a number of retail jobs and most recently was a regional sales representative for Ganz Inc., an international wholesale distributor of giftware. Mary was fiercely proud of her Canadian heritage. She loved taking trips to northern Michigan and Canada and walks along the towpath in southwest Allen County. She was also exceedingly passionate about animals and considered her pets her kids. She had a heart of gold and her many talents, generosity and laughter will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her husband, Rick Farrant; sister, Nancy (McMinn) (Ben) Sheets; half-brother, Christopher (Jennifer) McMinn, and their son, Miles; niece, Allison Sheets; niece, Mackenzie (Chris) Meyer; step-daughter Amber Farrant; and Mary's beloved dog and cats, who also mourn her passing. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the meadow behind 4701-1 Covington Road in Fort Wayne. Private interment will take place later in Canada. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal advocacy organization of the donor's choice; the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or Visiting Nurse.
