Mary F. Riedel, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Visiting Nurse surrounded by her family. Born on December 23, 1930 in Tipton, IA, Mary was the daughter of the late Donald and Frances Hegarty. She lived her life in devotion to her faith, her family and her community. She married Jerry Riedel on September 19, 1953 and were blessed with five children. She was a member of St. Michael Lutheran Church, serving as past president of their Women's Guild, along with serving as past president of the Newcomers Club. A tireless writer, Mary penned thousands of welcome, thinking of you, sympathy, and holiday cards and letters to family, friends, and fellow church members but often to others whom she sensed "could use some brightness in their day." Surviving are her loving husband of 63 years, Jerry Riedel of Fort Wayne; children, Kevin (Jannie) Riedel of Overland Park, KS, Teri (Randy) Rumzek of Lansing, MI, Sue (Bob) Pickard, Jan (Randy) Fillmore, Leslie (Don) Crandall all of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Winifred Becker of Florence, AL; and brother, John (Trudy) Hegarty of Cedar Rapids, IA. Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Don Hegarty. Service is 11:00 am, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Rd with calling one hour prior, Rev. Reed Lessing officiating. Calling at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road Wednesday, January 4, 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
