Marvin Eugene Alwine, age 75, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, Indiana. He worked for the Allen County Police Department as a Deputy Sheriff for 27 years. During his career with the ACPD he worked as Quartermaster, Evidence Technician, Weapons & Training Officer and in the Traffic Division. He was passionate about his responsibilities as a police officer and received many commendations, honors and achievements during his career. Marvin served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963 serving much of his time on the S.S. Coral Sea, receiving the Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the Air National Guard as an SSGT from 1977 to 1981 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a gifted woodworker, an expert marksman, a mediocre fisherman, a devoted family man and genuine friend to many. Marvin cherished his time traveling to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, creating memories with family and friends and spending hours on the beach with a cold beverage in hand. He is survived by his wife Carol Alwine of Fort Wayne, IN; his daughters Heather (Aris) Alwine Eracleous of Fort Wayne, IN and Lisa K. Harkless of Fort Wayne, IN; his brother, James (Robin) B. Alwine of Peru, IN, sister, Marilynn J. Mathias of Columbia, TN; grandchildren, Andreas Eracleous of Fort Wayne, Jeffery (Angela) Osburn of Fort Wayne, IN, Samuel (Noelle) Harkless of Fort Wayne, IN and Ryan (Kelli) Harkless of Spotsylvania, VA; his great-grandchildren and two faithful hound dogs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane P. (Franke) Alwine; brothers, Robert D. Alwine and John F. Alwine; sisters, Betty M. Starkey, Mary R. Alwine and Donna B. Alwine. Celebration of Life and sharing of great memories with love and laughter at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Graveside Service immediately following the Celebration of Life at Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to: Presence Sacred Heart Home in Avilla, IN, the Alzheimer's Association or Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).
