Loretta K. Gayer, 80, entered the arms of her Loving Savior on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Fort Wayne, IN, in the presence of her loving daughter in a peaceful, quiet ending to a life full of generosity of love, and caring compassion for others. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, musician, artist, committed volunteer, incredible hostess and humorist, she lived her life in service to Christ, saw the beauty in everything and all people, and found joy in bringing friends and strangers a smile or a song, leaving behind this life to be in Heaven with her husband Donald K. Gayer of 54 years who passed away less than four months prior. The eldest daughter of German immigrants, she was born in 1936 in Chicago IL, to Anne (Schweinsberg) Kater, and Herman Kater. Growing up in Chicago, IL, she attended Zoar Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Steinmetz High School. Her career as a secretary and office manager began as a young woman at First National Bank in Chicago, IL, and she retired from ITT Fort Wayne, IN in 1998. Her passions throughout her life included her family, her church, playing piano, choir, volunteering at Parkview Hospital, counseling young women in crisis, and she was very active in assisting in refugee resettlement and support. Her greatest joy was spending time with her two grandchildren. Surviving is her daughter Tracy Gayer of Fort Wayne, IN, her sons, Theodore (Theresa) Gayer of Vancouver, WA; Thomas (Jacque) Gayer of Sandy, UT; sister JoAnne (Siegfried) Siedler of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Lauren Gayer and Luke Gayer (Sandy, UT). Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Service is 10:30 am, Saturday August 19, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior. Calling also Friday, August 18, 2017, from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 pm at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
