Laura F. Smith, 95, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017. Born in Pinehurst, GA, Laura was the daughter of the late Major Franklin and Mary McCormick. She worked for Parkview Hospital as an Employment Manager during her 44 year career, retiring in 1999. She was a 61 year charter member of Forest Park United Methodist Church where she was active in many church groups including the Rebecca Circle. Laura was also a member of American Business Womens Association, Personnel Club with Parkview, and Parkside Fitness Center. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her church friends. Laura loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. Surviving are her son, Larry (Diane) Smith of Fort Wayne; daughter, Sylvia (Jim) Dowty of Dillon, CO; grandchildren, Christa Dowty, James (Kari) Dowty, Kimberly Freiburger, Lisa (Todd) Stillwell; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Noah, Lexi, Sophia, Braden, and Bailey. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Daniel Smith, five brothers, one sister, and great-granddaughter, Natalie. Service is 11:00 am, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Forest Park United Methodist Church, 2100 Kentucky Ave with calling from 9:00 am until the service. Entombment in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodview Healthcare and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassionate care they gave Laura. Memorials may be made to the Forest Park Methodist Church 2100 Kentucky Ave 46805 or Heart to Heart Hospice. D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
