John P. Berger, D.D.S. passed away on June 4, 20017 at Lutheran Life Village, Fort Wayne. He was 89 years old. He was born on October 18, 1927 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He was preceded by his parents Paul S. Berger, Hazel F. Berger and his sister, Betty Hans (Dean). John enjoyed music, playing the saxophone and was active in school events at Mishawaka High School. John loved Lake Wawasee where he engaged in skiing, boating, fishing and sailing with family and friends. He served in the U.S. Army in Heidelburg, Germany playing in the army band. He graduated from Indiana University in 1950 and Indiana School of Dentistry in 1954. He was dedicated to his private dentistry practice for over 40 years and spent many hours volunteering his services in the community. He served as president of the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society. Jack was an active member, elder and sang in the choir at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He loved playing euchre, bridge and traveling with his family and friends.
He is survived by Mary Lou, his devoted wife of 66 years, daughter Victoria Yarbrough (Kenneth), sons Daniel (Theresa) and Timothy (Martina); his grandchildren Heather Bertch, Erin Palermo (Lee), Suzanne Berger, Dr. Eric Berger (Taylor), Ann Marie Stellhorn (David), Nathan Berger, Tori Berger, his great grandchildren, Alexis Palermo, Bella Palermo and Lilianna Berger, his brother-in-law (Dean) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Service is 11:00 am, Friday, June 9, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with calling from 9:00 am until the service. Rev. Dr. Thomas Alhersmeyer is officiating. Memorial may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Matthew 25 Clinic or Heartland Hospice D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
