John B. Rufner, age 69, of Auburn, IN passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Rufner was born on May 11, 1949 in Auburn, IN to Max and Rebecca (Fee) Rufner. John graduated from Waterloo High School in 1967. In 1971, he graduated from Tri-State University earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served his country honorably with the United States Army. On September 19, 1970, he married Elizabeth Schlecht in Rochester Hills, MI. John worked for 3M, MTS Systems, and Sperry Univac in St. Paul, MN. In Fort Wayne, he worked for ITT in the Aerospace Communications Division. John was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed amateur radio, being outdoors, was an avid reader, and loved tinkering with his hobbies. He had a gift for serving others and loved spending time with his family. His love for his Savior Jesus Christ was his true comfort. Survivors include his wife, Beth Rufner, of Auburn. Children; Anna (Garry) Haase of Niceville, FL, David (Megan) Rufner of Jenison, MI, and Rachel (Adam) Grossman of Richmond, VA, grandchildren; Jedidiah Rufner, Ethan Haase, Levi Rufner, Elijah Haase, Josiah Rufner, Eden Rufner, Adeline Grossman, Bennett Grossman, brother, Randy (Kathy) Rufner, and many cousins, nieces, and a nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janice Chikota. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 6-8pm at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 11am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, IN 46815. Christian burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery Gardens.
