Joan M. Robel, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Elwood, Indiana, Joan was the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Ley. She graduated from Huntington Catholic High School class of 1949. Joan graduated Cum Laude from Memphis State University with a bachelors degree in sociology and psychology. In her youth, Joan was a runway model in Chicago. Joan was an accountant for several businesses during her working career prior to retirement. She was a volunteer for many years at the Denver Museum of Natural History and Ocean Journey Aquarium in Denver. She enjoyed traveling, photography, the mountains in Colorado, but most of all being there for her family. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Robel-Hall, O.D. of Fort Wayne granddaughter, Sarah Marie Hall; siblings, Donald (Sandra) Ley of West Palm Beach, FL, Marilyn Nagaich of Mason, OH, Dorothy Stetzel of Roanoke, Betty Hammond of Fort Wayne, Robert Ley of Queen Creek, AZ; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ley of Fort Wayne, along with many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Lee Robel, and brother, James Ley. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church with calling one hour prior. Calling at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd Fort Wayne, Indiana, Monday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, Indiana.
