Joan L Detwiler. 86, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 and is now reunited with a lifetime of precious family and friends. She was born in Three Rivers, MI, to the late Arthur and Odessa Pickens. Joan lived in Fort Wayne, IN most of her life. She worked as the Director of Day Care with North Christian Church for many years and taught nursery school at Crescent Ave Church. Joan had lived and played in Florida for many years, before moving back to Indianapolis to be near her family. She enjoyed playing golf and cards, but her passion was spending time with her family. Her joyful spirit lives on in her children and family, JoEllen (Dan) VanAnda of Indianapolis, IN; Daniel (Julie) Detwiler of Atlanta, GA; Janet (Kelly) George of Mc Cordsville, IN; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a brother, William Pickens of Jacksonville, FL. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, first husband of 56 years,Nelson Roy Detwiler, second husband, Roy Abrams, and a granddaughter, Tressa Jo VanAnda. Service is 10:30 am, Wednesday July 19, 2017 at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road with calling one hour prior.
