James (Jim) Davis, 78, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Parkview Heart Institute in Fort Wayne, Indiana after heart bypass surgery. Jim was born in Little Rock, Arkansas October 7, 1938 to the late George and Betty Davis.
Jim served in the Army for 3 years as a Traffic Analyst in Germany. He will be buried with Military Honors.
Jim worked in the Hotel and Restaurant business in Alabama, Arkansas, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. He moved to Fort Wayne in 1983 to manage Bandido's restaurants and Jimmie's Pizza Inns as Vice President, Operations. He also managed Club Olympia and the Elks Lodge. Jim and Mark Bonahoom opened Omar's Grill A-Fare, a unique steak house where you or the chef could grill your steak over an open grill. He also owned several children's game rooms under the names Quincy's and Q-Ball. He retired at 62. Jim participated in Valley Pool Leagues.
Jim was quite the character with his own unique colorful sayings. For example, "it's a frog strangler" during a severe thunderstorm. He went spelunking with Mikel in Boy Scouts and swore he would never go in another cave. Jim worked at a marina with his parents on Lakes Ouachita and Maumelle in Arkansas when he was in college. He and his brother cleaned and helped the fisherman launch their boats. Jim fished tournaments in his younger days and could always find fish when others couldn't. He enjoyed relaxing with neighbors and fishing on Lake Hamilton, playing pool in leagues, tournaments and playing "Sorry" with his grand girls, Caelyn, Hali and Teagan. He sang in the choir at St. John's this year.
Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jan (LaRoy); his sons, Jimmy, George (Dawn), Mikel (Michele) and Rone (Cindy); grandchildren, KC Kelly (Andrew), Joel, Nick, Caelyn, Hali and Teagan Davis. Great grandchildren are Layla, Miki and Connor Kelly and an aunt, Birdie Mae Hackney. There are many cousins in Arkansas, Georgia and Florida and nieces and nephews in Arkansas.
His father, George, died in 1979, brother William (Bill) Davis died in 1997 and his mother, Betty C. Davis died in April, 2017 just before her 100th birthday.
