Ian MacKenzie Rolland, 84, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on June 3, 1933, Ian was the son of the late David and Florence Rolland. Ian graduated from North Side High School in 1951. He earned his bachelors from DePauw University in 1955 and his masters in Actuarial Science from the University of Michigan in 1956. He began his career at Lincoln National Corporation in 1956 and held many positions including Senior VP, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board during his 42 year career until his retirement in 1998. Ian was awarded the Sachem Award in 2012, Indiana's highest honor, Insurance Legends Award from the Actuarial Foundation, Countless other awards, and honorary degrees. Ian was deeply passionate in improving the lives of people in the Fort Wayne Community by his involvement with many non-profit organizations, mentoring future leaders, and establishing a foundation to carry on his legacy of giving. Ian enjoyed going with his family to the Colts games, going to Lake Wawasee, and spending time in Longboat Key, Florida. Ian ran in 15 marathons, enjoyed sailing, and traveling with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Miriam "Mimi" Rolland of Fort Wayne; children, Cheri Stone of Columbus, Larry (Irene) Rolland of Kokomo, Bob (Beth) Rolland of Columbus, OH, Carol Rolland of Fort Wayne, Sara Moore of Fishers; grandchildren, David Weinheimer, Megan (Ian) McGriff, Sean Rolland, Brian Rolland, Abby Rolland, Justin Rolland, Chris Rolland, Andrew Rolland, Morgan Rolland, Braeden Melo Rolland, Mason Rolland, Miriam and Melia Avant; step-granddaughters, Jenni and Erin Kesler; four great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Larry) Allen of Kendallville; and sister-in-law, Barbara Rolland of NV. Ian was preceded in death by his granddaughter Alaina Rolland; grandson, Michael Rolland, and brother, Alan Rolland. A Funeral is 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Turnstone Center, 3320 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana with calling one hour prior. Celebration of Ian's Life is also at the Turnstone Center, Friday, July 7, 2017, 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ian and Mimi Rolland Foundation PO Box 5662 Fort Wayne, IN 46895. D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
