Halden C. "Hal" Platt, 84, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018. Born in Zanesville, Indiana, Hal was the son of the late Arlo and Wilma Platt. Hal graduated from East Union High School in 1951 and earned his bachelors degree from Huntington College in 1955. While in college he played both baseball and basketball. Hal pitched for the Muncie Reds a single A farm league of the Cincinnati Reds. Hal taught at Muncie Schools and coached baseball from 1955-1960. He then coached at Albion prior to becoming a teacher, coach and Athletic Director at Leo Junior/Senior High School until retirement. Hal loved coaching and enjoyed his daily tee times at the golf course. He was a member of Leo United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in their choir. Hal enjoyed getting together monthly with his fellow retired colleagues. Surviving are his sons, Greg (Suzanne) Platt of Belleview, FL, Gary (Cathy) Platt of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Gregory Platt, Cameron Platt, Lyndsy (Pete) Moore, Matthew (Holly) Platt; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jackson, Julia and Jaycee Platt, Hunter and Alaina Moore; and sister, Marlene (Don) Hoopingarner of Bluffton. Hal was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Platt; and sister, Carolyn Rose Platt. Service is 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Leo United Methodist Church, 13527 Leo Road with calling one hour prior, Rev. David Heim officiating. Calling at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial in Leo Memorial Cemetery, Leo, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Leo United Methodist Church.
