GRACE A. COLBURN, 107, passed peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Saint Anne Home. Born March 28, 1910, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frank Abbett and Kathleen Bannon Abbett. Grace graduated from Tudor Hall, Indianapolis, Ind., and married Harry H. Colburn in 1938. In 1955, they moved to Fort Wayne where she managed the millinery department at Wolf & Dessauer, retiring after 20 years. Grace loved NASCAR, bingo, bridge, knitting, reading and as her eyes diminished books on tape. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Whitehead; son, Robert (Jackie) Colburn; grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Brooks, Matt Hoevel, Marcy (Tony) Bestard, Jennifer (Todd) Wilson, and Stacie (Jim) Hoeckendorf; 10 great-grandchildren, Allyson, Emma, Will, Taylor, Sophie, Jack, Payton, Jake, Charlie, and Josh; and loving nieces and nephews. Grace was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Colburn; siblings, Frank and Charles Abbett; and infant granddaughter, Wendy Hoevel. The family gives thanks to all those who have blessed Grace with their care and kindness. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Riley Hospitals for Children.
