George E Colby, 70, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born in Prentice, WI, to the late George E and Irma Colby and graduated from Elmhurst HS in 1967. George was a US Army Veteran from 1968-1971. He was an Allen County Police officer for 35 years and retired in 2006. He has served as a Lieutenant of Vice and Narcotics and a multi-agency drug task force commander. George also worked for the Department of Justice with the "MAGLOCLEN" program. His memberships also included American Legion Post 381 and past member of FOP Wayne Lodge #14, and President and founder of IDEA. He enjoyed fishing, working in his wood shop, going to casinos, but his passion was spending time with his family and two grandson. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Colby of Wolcottville, IN; daughters, Catherine (Tony) Maggert of Fort Wayne, IN; Lora Ann Colby of Columbia City, IN; sister, Lilly Hutchinson of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Jacob and Cameron Maggart . George was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Eleanor Gerke, Meda Shilts, brothers, Robert, Albert, Drew, and Roger Colby. Service is 1:00 pm, Sunday December 31, 2017 at- D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road with calling one hour prior. Calling also Saturday, December 30, 2017, from 2- 4 & 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home. Private burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the education fund for Cameron and Jacob in care of Cathy Maggart.
