Frederick M. Schmidt, 87, passed away on June 6, 2017 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Born August 1, 1929 in Clay City, Indiana he was the son of the late Fred and Barbara Schmidt. He was a sales representative for Dilgard Foods for over two decades and after his retirement from Dilgard he worked at Connolly's Do It Best (Southgate) for several years. He was quick witted & loved to laugh and was a die-hard Indiana University basketball fan. He was a friend to all and never refused anyone who asked for his help. After his retirement he made attending his grandchildren's events his priority.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joanne Schmidt, daughter Denise (Mike) Moyer, sons Jay (Lisa) Schmidt and Marc (Nancy) Schmidt; sister Mary Ellen Targett, grandchildren Andrew and Ryan (Lexi) Moyer; Kyle (Ashley), Bryan and Alex Schmidt; Katie (Phil) Huettl and Eric (Ashley) Schmidt; and ten great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by sisters Jean Harbaugh and Virginia Salter and grandchildren Brett, Emily and Elizabeth Schmidt. Service is 1:30 pm Saturday, June 10, 2017 with calling one hour prior at D.O. McComb & Sons Foster Park Funeral Home, 6301 Fairfield Avenue, Fort Wayne. Pastors Paul and Cheryl Thomas officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday, June 9, 2017 at the funeral home. Preferred memorials, in lieu of flowers, are to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Alzheimer's Association or Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren.
