Early on the morning of January 21st, 2017, Emma Katherine Marie Mildred (nee Straub), 61, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister, cousin, niece, and church lady, traded in her broken and scarred body for a crown of life. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she graduated from North Side High School and Indiana University. Early in her career, she worked at Wayne Home Equipment, where she met John F. Mildred, her husband of over 40 years. She was also a dental assistant, medical office manager, and insurance specialist who retired from K&K Insurance. No job was more important to her, however, than being a mother. She is survived by her children, Adam (Shaunnette) Mildred, of Fort Wayne; Colin (Erika) Mildred of Keller, Texas; Amber (Jeremy) Curry, of Warsaw, Indiana; grandchildren Victoria, Hannah, Emma, Jordan, Jace, and Piper; mother Donna Straub, of Avondale, Colorado; siblings Richard Straub, of Fort Wayne and Ronald Straub, of Avondale, Colorado; her beloved dogs, Chewi and Pepper, and numerous souls blessed to have been taken under her wing. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, John Mildred, and her father, Richard Straub. Kathy was a member of Praise Lutheran Church, faithfully serving several years as a congregational officer. She was a voracious reader of her Bible and attended multiple Bible studies a week while her health allowed. Having been a young mother that rejected encouragement to abort her baby, she was a dedicated volunteer for the Allen County Right to Life and Lutherans for Life. Her remarkable life will be celebrated by those who knew and loved her on Saturday, January 28th, 2017, at 10:30am at Praise Lutheran Church, 1115 West Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with calling one hour prior to the service. Pastor Seth Korte will officiate. Calling at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont RoadFriday, January 27, 2017, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery , Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Allen County Right to Life or Allen County SPCA. To sign the online guest book, go to www.domccombandsons.com.
