ELVA MAE (JACKSON) LIECHTY JUNE 5, 1925 - MAY 6, 2018 Elva Mae (Jackson) Liechty, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the age of 92. She was born in Decatur, IN to the late Rolla and Oda Gay Jackson on June 5, 1925. She spent her childhood in Decatur and was a graduate of Decatur High School, where she was a member of the school band and the basketball team. After graduation, she attended business school and was employed by Central Soya Corporation. Elva married Dr. Palmer E. Liechty on May 30, 1948. They moved to Chicago, IL, while Palmer attended the Northern Illinois College of Optometry. During this time, Elva was employed at the Walgreens Drug Store headquarters, as Executive Assistant to C.R. Walgreen Jr. After Palmer graduated from Optometry School, they settled in Fort Wayne, IN where Palmer established his optometry practice. Palmer preceded her in death in 1970. Elva was a homemaker, raising four children. Upon Palmer's death, Elva returned to work in the medical field as a medical and dental receptionist, a medical staffing coordinator and for the Regional Office of the American Red Cross, in Fort Wayne, IN, retiring in 1993. Elva enjoyed and was successful in her professional business career, but her primary focus was to care for her family. During her life she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and watching them grow. She particularly had fun taking the grandkids to the zoo and being involved in their many activities. Elva has eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Elva is survived by her four children, Jason Palmer Liechty (the late Deborah), Greenwood, IN, Jeffrey Alan Liechty (Melissa), Kokomo, IN, Janice Liechty McGeary (Donald Seielstad), Frankfort, IL and Jerry Dean Liechty (the late Lisa), Fort Wayne, IN. She is also survived by a sister, Eloise Jackson Smith (the late Norm), Marietta, GA, in addition to three brothers and a sister who all preceded her in death, Marion Jackson (Hilda), Clarice Jackson Lawson (Jack), Richard Jackson (Gussie) and Ralph Jackson (Sharon). There will be a private family service and celebration of life with burial at the MRE Cemetery in Berne, IN.
