Dorothy Maxine Richards soul went to join her savior in heaven on March 15, 2018. She was 85 years old. She was residing at Bethlehem Woods nursing home when she died. She had struggled with dementia for at least 10 years, complications of which finally took her.
Dorothy was born March 12, 1933 to Lawrence and Agnes Greer at their farm near Mitchell, IN. She met her husband Thomas E. Richards there and it was love at first sight because after just 6 months they were married on July 23rd, 1951. One year later they welcomed the first of their 4 children, Jane. 18 months after that Tom Jr. arrived. 4 years later came Mark, and finally James Paul 4 years after Mark.
Dorothy loved God, her husband, her children, and her church family. She was very active at Calvary Baptist Church for many years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary, pianist, choir member, and prayer warrior.
In addition to her volunteer activities at church, she worked outside the home when her children were older. She held positions in administration with American Hospital Supply, and F&G foods. But most of her life was spent making a good home for her husband and children.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, art, and music. She expressed her love through oil paintings, playing the piano, singing, and quilting.
In 2007 she lost her beloved husband of 55 years. She never recovered from the loss. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Agnes Greer, brothers Charles, Gerald, and Bob Greer, sisters Mary Carpenter, Jean Horine, and Betty Conner.
She is survived by all 4 of her children, her brother George, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
She was a wonderful person and will be missed terribly. If she could leave you with one thought it would be this, "If you are not already saved, GET SAVED! Then we can be together forever in heaven."
Funeral Service will be 3 pm, Monday, March 19, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church, with calling from 1:30 pm until the service, Rev. Mike Harris officiating. Calling will be on Sunday, March, 18, 2018 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Burial in Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco, Indiana.
