Donald K. Gayer, 77, entered the arms of his Loving Savior on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Parkview Hospital Randallia, Fort Wayne, IN, surrounded by his wife and all of his children, in a peaceful, sweet and joyful ending to an incredibly well lived life of grace, equanimity, compassion and dedication to serving God. He was born in 1939 in St. Louis, MO, to Andrew and Laura Gayer. Donald graduated from Brentwood High School, Brentwood MO (1957), and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Teaching from Concordia University, River Forest IL (1961). He earned a Masters in Mathematics from Purdue University (1970). Donald taught physics and math at Luther North High School in Chicago IL (1961-63), and taught physics, math and computer science at Concordia Lutheran High School from (1964-82). He continued his teaching career at Concordia University, Seward NE (1982-86). He continued his career as an electrical engineer at Tokheim Corporation from where he retired in 1999. His passions included his family, the outdoors, travel and photography, and he was very active in assisting in refugee resettlement and support. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Loretta Gayer of Fort Wayne, IN. sons, Theodore (Theresa) Gayer of Vancouver, WA; Thomas (Jacque) Gayer of Sandy, UT; daughter, Tracy Gayer of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, Gerald (Karen) Gayer of Boulder CO; grandchildren, Lauren Gayer and Luke Gayer (Sandy UT). Donald was preceded in death by his parents. Service is 10:30 am, Saturday April 29, 2017 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior, Rev. Doug Croucher officiating. Calling also Friday, April 28, 2017, from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 pm at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
