Don Edward Getts, 79, of Fort Wayne passed away on October 11, 2014 at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born September 6, 1935 in Garrett, IN to Estelle and Edna (King) Getts. He graduated from Garrett High School in 1954 and attended International Business College. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Sandra Sheehan Buckmaster on November 27, 1988. Don retired after 39 years at International Harvester/Navistar as Manager of Technical Support for the Overseas Division. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 178 in Garrett, IN. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He and Sandy enjoyed winters in Florida, volunteering at the church, watching his favorite sports teams on television, gardening, and playing cards with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Sandra, sons Rick (Janeen) Getts of Auburn, IN; Roger (Pam) Getts of Orland, IN; Ron (Kelly) Getts of Garrett, IN; Robb (Angie Blust) Getts of Fort Wayne; step-daughter Stephanie (Jeff Bodie) Barr; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers Maurice (Janet) Getts and James (Nancy) Getts both of Garrett, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Faith (Ellis) Zumwalt of Tulsa, OK, Joyce (Ron) Parker of Pleasant Lake, IN, and brother Larry (Judy) Getts of Garrett, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, October 16, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Walled Road, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior, Fr. James Shafer officiating. Calling at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary service at 4:30 pm.
