David R. "Dick" Hollingsworth, 91, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, at The Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Mansfield, OH, on October 22, 1926, he graduated from Mansfield Sr. High School, earned his Bachelor's degree from Wooster College, and his Master's degree in Chemistry from The Ohio State University. Dick served in the US Army Air Corps from 1944-1945. He went to work for Eli Lilly from 1950-1984. It was while they worked in the Eli Lilly labs that he met his wife of 53 years, Julia B. Hyde. Dick and Juby were charter members of Faith Baptist Church. He was elected to serve as the St. Joseph Township Trustee, a charter member of the Glenaqua Swim Club, and a longtime tutor with the FWCS Study Connection. Dick had a lifetime love of sports including swimming, softball, racquetball, and tennis. He was an avid fan of Ohio State football, the Detroit Tigers, and the Cleveland Indians. Dick was a participant in the Fort Wayne Senior Games and Senior Softball. He loved gardening and traveling to National Parks, visiting his first and favorite, Yellowstone, in 1942. Surviving are his children, Julie (Kathleen Smith) Hollingsworth, David B. Hollingsworth, Jane A. Hollingsworth, and Janet (Dave Renauld) Lonsway Renauld; grandchildren, Molly Morton, Paige Hollingsworth, Annie, Sam, and Tom Lonsway; and loving friend, Pat Calhoun. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Juby; and his parents, Samuel and Catherine Hollingsworth. Dick often said, "I am a lucky guy. I have lived the American Dream." Service is 10:30 am, Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd with calling one hour prior. Calling also Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
