Carol Castor Brooks, 62, died Monday, May 1, 2017, surrounded by her family after a long battle with breast cancer. Born April 10, 1955, in Fort Wayne, IN, Carol was the youngest daughter of Ken and Frieda Castor. With lifelong friends Vicki and Julie and her sister, Honey, Carol's spirit started getting her into mischief at an early age, continuing to find fun and joy for all throughout her entire life. She married John Brooks on January 13, 1979, and they shared an unparalleled love for 38 years. While she worked as a chemist and as a part-time florist, her family was her focus, dedicating her time to raising her children, Margi and Bob, as well as her nieces and nephews. Her love of her family was central to her core, and she relished the time spent with them.
Carol was a true friend to many, and her family is grateful for the support and love her many friends gave her throughout her life. She had an independent spirit, a beautiful smile, a contagious laugh, a strong and vocal opinion, a cooking skill beyond compare, a dirty sense of humor, an iron will, and the most loving heart. She enjoyed traveling the world with her family, dancing to hip-hop music, baking the best cookies and pies ever, exploring the flora and fauna of Indiana and Montana, and reading a good book. She will be missed dearly, and she wished to share this thought:
Every day is blessed. Find joy in each day that God has set out for you. Dwell on the moments of joy that we have shared. I have been blessed with a lifetime of these moments because of you and the abundance of Christ's love. Please make others as happy as you have made me.
She is survived by her husband, John; children, Robert and Margaret Brooks (Barry Rochford); siblings, Ken (Sandy) Castor, Jim (Chris) Castor, and Beth Regedanz; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Dave Kiracofe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded by her parents, Kenneth and Frieda Castor. Funeral service is 3pm Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Trinity English Lutheran Church, with calling one hour prior to the service. Calling is also from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm on Friday, May 5, 2017, at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls 8325 Covington Road Fort Wayne, IN 46804. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials should go to Little River Wetlands Project or the Nature Conservancy.
