Melvin R. (Mel) Arnold, 94 years old, passed away on August 29, 2019 in Fort Wayne with his loving family by his side. He was born in Allen County and graduated from Huntertown High School and International Business College. He served 2 1/2 years in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He was employed by Detmer & Co. CPA firm, retired as Vice President from Inland Chemical Corporation after more than 30 years and then was employed by McKesson Corporation. He was a Founding and Charter member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. He was a member of the downtown Fort Wayne Rotary Club, a long time member of S.C.O.R.E., and served on the board of United Methodist Church Builders. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Hattie (Culbertson) Arnold, two brothers, Raymond C., and Paul W. Arnold, and sister Ruth Gollhofer. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ruth Arnold, two sons, David A. (Janet Davis) Arnold of Chicago, and Daniel D. (Barbara) Arnold of Fort Wayne, and one daughter, Betty (Steve) Cunningham of Pensacola Beach, Florida. He also has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 4700 Vance Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46815 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46815. Betty...I know your dad was an incredible man because you loved him so very much. Although I never met him, I feel like you live his compassion for others and represent everything that he wished humankind could be. I am so very sorry for your loss.

You will be truely missed, I miss your smile and little talks in the night , holding your hand and reassuring you things will get better, and the morning before you went out thankyou for all the kind words and thanking me for taking such good care of you, and in all the years of taking care of residents I have never had someone say I will always be your savior, that means so much to me, you will be missed dearly love Betty wobler-mesing. And I'm sorry for telling you not to tell me goodbye but you could tell me goodnight , because the way you were talking you knew you weren't going to see me again and I wasn't ready to say goodbye, I pray for your family they were so good to you , I pray for your wife she loved you so much
