Tribute & Message From The Family

Sally Russell, 75, passed away July 25, 2019. She was born on October 10, 1943, in Marion, AL, the daughter of the late Enoch Dunkin and Mary Martin-Dunkin.

Sally obtained an Associate's Degree from IVY Tech, in Nursing, and started her professional career of 40+ years at Lutheran Hospital in Pediatrics. She moved on to work at Kindred HealthCare where she worked for several years. She eventually moved into the private sector, providing care for a smaller number of clients, and eventually took on one specific client until she finished her working career in the early 2000's. Since 1961, Sally was very involved within her church community at St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.W. Bledsoe, now under the leadership of Pastor F.A. Sleet. Sally was involved in Missionaries of which she sometimes served as Treasurer, a faithful Sunday School student, and on the Minister's/Deacon's and their Wives Committee. She was also an active Girl Scout's Assistant Troop Leader and wrestling booster mom. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, fancy clothes and hats, attending her children's activities, cooking, exercise, spending time at the pool, and most of all, spending time with her entire family.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Norman Russell; children, Channing (Kim) Russell, Karla (Andrew) Davis; grandchildren Aubrey Davis (8), Kaleb Davis (5), Adrian Russell (4), and Kamden Russell (2); siblings Bessie (Lane) Woods, Judy Woods, David (Diana) Martin, Rebecca (Mack) Lewis, James Morgan, and Maryetta Martin. She also leaves behind beautiful nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends to cherish her memory.

Funeral service will be held at 12pm on August 3, 2019 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 2421 S Hanna St, Fort Wayne, IN 46803. Visitation will be held from 10am to 12pm with services immediately following. *As a special tribute to Sally Russell, her sisters/respective family members will be wearing selected hats from her extensive collection. Guests are welcome to support by wearing their favorite Sunday hat in remembrance of her as well.

Burial will take place Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Condolences may be sent to St. John Missionary Baptist Church and any monetary contributions can be made out and sent to the charitable organization of your choice (Cancer Foundation, Alzheimer's Association of Ft. Wayne, or Parkview Hospice).

To the Martin and Russell Family. My heart is with you. Aunt Sally ran her race and fought well! She has shown us what a warrior and missionary is by her life and sacrifices. Let's remember her examples and models those same attributes!

With Love and Blessings,

David Darnell Martin
