Tribute & Message From The Family

Maureen Alexandra Arata, age 65, passed away of natural causes on July 15, 2019, at her home in North Hollywood, California. An Indiana native, Maureen graduated from Indiana University with a double major in Music-Piano Performance, and English. Her love of foreign films (and freely acknowledged fear of performing) led her to Los Angeles where she worked throughout her career as a Casting Director. This work later expanded into Screen Writing and Producing. Maureen's remarkable ability to find new talent also applied to books and music, and her family fondly remembers her shared favorite discoveries. While processing some challenging experiences in an ever evolving entertainment industry, Maureen randomly found and began drawing with a colored pencil. This chance event led her to become a self-taught oil painting and mixed media artist (maureenarata.com) . Maureen stated in a recent bio that in painting she found "the road that never ends". Her artwork was accepted into several acclaimed curated shows and her spirit lives on in all of her lifetime creations, as well as in the memories of those she leaves behind. These include members of St. Monica's Catholic Church where she was active as a greeter; colleagues and friends in Los Angeles; and an extensive family network of aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents (alive and deceased). She is survived by her loving parents Dr. James and Jane Arata, siblings Elaine Arata (Mark Pecevich), Cynthia Heinze, Nancy Arata, James Arata Jr. (Gina), Cheryl Arata, Tim Arata (Loretta Jones), and Lisa Yde (Mark). Maureen was a proud aunt of 11 fabulous nieces and nephews and their equally adored spouses and children. Services will be held on July 30, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Arcola. The 10:30 a.m. visitation will be followed by a memorial mass at 11:30 a.m. To sign the online guestbook please visit www.dignitymemorial.com

Blessings to Maureen's family and friends. When we were high school seniors, we decided to make cookies at Maureen's house. When I saw the piano, I asked her if she played. She sat down and played something she wrote that was absolutely beautiful. I was too embarrassed to play my rendition of Love Story after that! And, while heading to Greece, a bomb was threatened on our train in Italy. We changed course and instead spent a week on the Isle of Capri and another week on the Adriatic side in Rimini. I have always cherished that opportunity we had to stay in both places. Peace be with you.❤

My heartfelt sympathy to Maureen's family. I have known Maureen for over 30 years and have cherished our friendship throughout that time. Maureen was a seeker of truth in all areas of her life and in all her relationships. She strove to be authentic and to look beyond the facades and pretenses of people in order to relate to their deepest needs. Maureen had a great sense of humor, she was beautiful, a person of faith who always hoped to be gracious and fair. It has been a shock to lose her so soon. I will miss her greatly.

I am so sorry I didn't get to know Maureen better. She always seemed like such a pleasant and bright person in high school. I didn't know she was such a proficient musician and talented artist. She certainly accomplished much in her life with her abilities. I know her family and close friends will miss her greatly.

I attended Bishop Dwenger with Maureen. I remember her as an activist for social causes in which she had strong beliefs. She made an impression on me as mature beyond her years. I'm not at all surprised that she has such an outstanding career. My deepest sympathy to Maureen's family & friends.

Maureen's gentle, tender manner will stay in my heart always. We shared a deep bond that needed no words, and by her example, she taught me much. When I ponder a word to describe Maureen, the word that comes to mind is treasure.
