Sam was a good friend to me from the time we were kids back in West Unity, Ohio. He was a lot of fun and very caring. We were in Boy Scouts together. He loved to read, and I think he read every book in our little library at least twice. Ray would take Sam and Joel to Montpelier, Ohio, library to have a larger selection. He taught me the enjoyment of reading. The world is a darker place without Sam in it. My heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Dear Marilyn and Family,
Sam was a dear friend to me and to everyone, it seemed. He gave so much to our Fort Wayne community--not just through his knowledge of books but also through his joy and passion for living. Mary Ann and I are so very sorry for your loss. We hope your memories will comfort you.

Sorry to hear about Sam.
We were members of Tau Kappa Epsilon at Indiana University. Sam had an amazing intellect and could start studying for a course two days before the final exam and still ace the course.
He was also a dedicated bike rider and was the go to guy during I.U.'s Little 500 bicycle race if our team needed someone to stay on the bike an extra 30 or 40 laps to give the rest of the team a breather.
My condolences to the Hyde family.

Sam in his corner, books everywhere.
Books downstairs, books up;
People looking for books.
"Where are...?": Sam knows.
Gentle in spirit, friendly to all,
All the seekers and finders,
Finding books and a friend,
at Hyde Brothers Booksellers.

Such a loss to the Ft. Wayne, IN and world community. After learning and interacting with Sam in selling and purchasing books for 20+ years, I found him to be a very knowledgable and honest man willing to share his wisdom of literature generously. Sam was a genuine and a special person, and will be missed greatly by those who knew and worked with him. Godspeed.
