Paul Eugene Underwood, 86, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on September 15, 1931, the son of the late Harry and Blanche Underwood. Paul was a 1953 graduate of Indiana University where he played baseball. He was voted most valuable player for the 1953 season and was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Rather than playing MLB, Paul served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. Paul was the Executive Vice President of N.B.D. Bank, formerly known as the People's Trust Bank. Paul was a member of St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church. He also served as the President of the Central Lion's Club. Paul received the honor of being the 50 year "I" man at Indiana University. Surviving are his children; Dr. Steven (Sheila) Underwood, Thomas (Deborah) Underwood, John (Deb) Underwood, James (Ann) Underwood, and Paul M. Underwood; 9 grandchildren, Mary Margaret Jackson, Emily Underwood, Amy Stoffel, Kelly Underwood, Rachael Underwood, Raleigh Stoll, Sarah Underwood, Scott Underwood, and Taylor Underwood; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Nina (Bill) Hoover, and Janice (David) Irwin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Victoria Underwood; great-grandchild, Gilbert Strader; siblings, Benjamin Underwood, Alice Moring Hageman, Mary Palmer, Charles Underwood, Hugh Underwood, Harry Underwood, and Lois Yoder. Funeral service will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church, 3535 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne, IN 46805, with calling 1 hour prior. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday February 19, 2018 at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Chapel, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne, IN 46804. Trisagion prayers will take place on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 7:30pm also at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church.
