Helen Ann Runge, 86, died on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Born in Delaware, Ohio, on April 23 (Shakespeare's birthday), Helen was the daughter of Shad and Mary (Ferris) Hartsough. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Delaware and went on to work in the offices of Greif Brothers Cooperage with her future sister-in-law, Dorothy (Runge) Amato. In 1953 she married Robert H Runge, and moved to Fort Wayne. There she raised four daughters, devotedly attending all of their horse shows, science fairs and scouting events. Helen then returned to the job market, where she loved interacting with people. In one of her roles, she owned and operated the Indiana Equestrian Association, Inc. She went on to co-manage the Allen County Voter Registration Office as the Democratic Board Member. Helen was also a life-long volunteer who helped out with many charitable causes, and she enjoyed working with the Allen County Democrats, making phone calls, lining up poll workers and getting people rides to their polling places so they could vote. She was a member of Saint Mary Mother of God Church. Surviving are two daughters, SuzAnne (John Brennan) Runge and Kathryn Janeway, and grandson Trevor Finch. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Bob, daughters RoxAnne Runge and Diane Finch, sister Marialyce Amato, brother Joseph Hartsough and her parents, Shad and Mary Hartsough. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Saint Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019 at D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorial gifts may be made to Saint Mary's Soup Kitchen or to the Allen County SPCA.

Sorry to have missed Helens passing as I was out of town for several weeks. I will miss seeing her walking her little dog past my house. She would sometimes stop and come up the driveway to check out my flowers!
I hope God has a special place for her beside Him.

Helen was a very precious woman and will definitely be missed in more ways than one. Especially at the Democratic Headquarters. Things just won't be the same at election time without her smiling face and her willing hands and heart to help wherever she can. Our Deepest Sympathy: John and Day Morgan

Helen and Bob were the first among the democrats to welcome us to the Democratic organizations in Fort Wayne when we arrived as early retirees. Helen never missed an opportunity to greet us, inquire about us, connect us to others within the organization and make us feel welcome in Democratic events. We are grateful to God for her welcoming hospitality, genuine interest in each person and her gracious presence in any place. Rev. Edward and Rev. Susan Keirn Kester.

I will miss seeing Helen as i looked forward to her visits at our pharmacy. When i first met her i found out she was Suzanne's mom who I worked with at the BMV and we were both surprised. Her smiling face just made my day and she was always so nice. I know she was a great mom and loved her family very much. She touched my heart and I'm sure many others as she was that kind of a person.

I'm so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. I worked with Helen many many years ago at Dinner Bell restaurant where Helen worked the front desk/hostess station. Helen's laugh and smile was contagious. And she had an awesome memory for the people she met along the way. I'm certain the voter registration office is missing her immensely today. Rest in peace, Helen.
