Joan Veronica Wilde Mostes, 86 of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on December 8, 2017 at Covington Manor Health Center. Joan was born October 20, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she spent her formative years in the Olney neighborhood of the city with parents Carl Wilde and Veronica (Dagney) Wilde. As a young woman, Joan worked at the Philadelphia Naval Depot, where she met Ettore Giovanni ("Nick") Mostes, who she married in 1952. They relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana when Nick accepted a job at Magnavox, and spent the next ten years establishing themselves in their new community while raising their four children, Mark, Michele, Matthew and Danielle. They divorced in 1963, and Joan thereafter, embarked on her profession working for the Fort Wayne Community Schools. She had a fulfilling career working with children, and after nearly twenty-five years, she retired as a Psychometric Aide. Joan was a great lover of her native City of Philadelphia and in her early years, wrote jokes for comedians there. Throughout her lifetime, she was known by all for her quick wit, and she enjoyed the company of family, dear lifelong girlfriends and neighbors, and all of her beloved pets, especially kitty-cats. She was an avid reader, enjoyed movies, good food, flowers and Indiana University basketball. She is survived by her son Mark M. Mostes (Sarah) of Bloomington, IN; son Matthew T. Mostes (Valerie) of San Francisco, CA; daughter Danielle C. Mostes of Fort Wayne, IN; son-in-law Hugh Henry ("Hank") Hawley of Boca Raton, FL; grand-daughters Noelle D. Hawley (fiancé Robert Fuhrman), Francesca D. Hawley of Boca Raton, FL; Rachel E. Mostes of Bloomington, IN; Chloe J. Mostes of Fort Wayne, IN; great-granddaughters Vada G. Hawley, Delaney M. and Nora L. Fuhrman, of Boca Raton, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Veronica (Dagney) Wilde; her uncle Michael T. Dagney; daughter Michele Mary Mostes-Hawley; and grand-daughter Gabrielle M. Hawley. Joan passed away peacefully after living the final years of her life with Alzheimer's disease. A Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2120 S. Harrison Street, Fort Wayne, IN, with a visitation of fellowship at 9:00 a.m., immediately preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2120 S. Harrison Street, Fort Wayne, IN, 46802, or Alzheimer's Association Greater Indiana Chapter at 6324 Constitution Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, Ph.#(260) 420-5547.
